***This position is as needed in response to natural disasters. Candidates must be local to the impacted area.***

Shelter Support Staff provide support to shelter residents working a set schedule during hours of operation seven days a week. This position requires someone who is a collaborative team player, adaptable and can work in a fluid environment. Must be a good communicator, compassionate and flexible. A general summary of responsibilities includes providing a safe, clean environment, supporting, and assisting shelter guests residing in facility, and documenting any safety or security concerns.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Follow and enforce Shelter Guidelines, Policies, and Procedures with shelter guests.
  • Communicate necessary information to keep shelter guests informed.
  • Support and assist guests with their shelter needs as they arise, per client's direction (ex. questions, concerns, hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, bedding, food, and more).
  • Maintain safety and security of shelter property, and report concerns to Shelter Manager or on-call lead.
  • Ensure the privacy of guest personal information and safety of guests.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the shelter through performance of housekeeping tasks outlined in Staff Task Lists (ex. sweeping, mopping, disinfecting).
  • Complete Shelter Inventory and other required activities and duties as assigned.
  • Provide ongoing documentation and reporting as directed by Shelter Manager.
  • Accurately record daily time worked on all activities in time tracking system of record.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while working with clients.
  • Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced, and growth-oriented environment while maintaining a positive solution-oriented and client-centered approach.
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment, and deescalate situations as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to be compassionate and firm towards guests.
  • Ability to accurately record information for required client and staff documentation while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work in an austere environment.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds independently.
  • Ability to walk, climb or descend stairs, kneel, bend and twist.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and a background check.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License
